Bill Belichick Says No Thanks to Trumps Presidential Medal of Freedom Offer

The New England Patriots head coach namely Bill Belichick has revealed his declination of Trumps Presidential Medal of Freedom offer in light of “the tragic events of last week.” The honor was scheduled to be bestowed upon Belichick on Thursday but the recent Capitol Hill disrespect by Trump supporters made the coach have a change of heart. “Recently, I was offered the opportunity to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which I was flattered by out of respect for what the honor represents and admiration for prior recipients.” Belichick stated while continuing “Subsequently, the tragic events of last week occurred and the decision has been made not to move forward with the award. Above all, I am an American citizen with great reverence for our nation’s values, freedom and democracy.”

An official spokesperson for the White House told CNN that they were aware of the decision. Belichick is a decorated coach whose won six Super Bowls during his more than 20 year tenure with the Patriots. His decision to break with the President comes after the Capitol Hill invasion which left five people dead including a federal officer.
